Architecture Award for i-Site/Coaltown building

Council is pleased to announce that the new i-Site and CoaltownMuseum building located on Palmerston Street, Westport has won a New Zealand Institute of Architects award for the 2013 category of Public Architecture in the Nelson Marlborough branch.

The building was designed by Boon Goldsmith Bhaskar Brebner Team Architects Ltd (BGBB) based in New Plymouth. This is the second time the collaboration between Buller District Council and BGBB has picked up this award, as the Solid Energy Centre also won the same award back in 2009.

“I would like to commend BGBB for this award and to Coman Construction for bringing the plan to realisation. The efforts of Chris Hartigan, Gail Howard, Craig Scanlon and a very dedicated team of community volunteers ensured this project was delivered on budget and on time. This is a significant community asset which was highly debated over the Council table many times. It is great to see community initiatives partnering with Development West Coast and Council, reinvigorating central Westport” comments Mayor, Garry Howard.
