Have your say on the Draft Local Alcohol Policy

Consultation is now open on the Buller District Council Draft Local Alcohol Policy (LAP).

The LAP is a set of policies, made by the Council in consultation with its community, about the sale and supply of alcohol in its geographical area. Once a LAP comes into force, the Council’s District Licensing Committee and the Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority must have regard to the policy when they make decisions on licence applications.

The Draft Local Alcohol Policy proposes to set maximum trading hours for licensed premises, prohibit the issue of further off-licences for stand-alone bottle stores and allow for various discretionary licence conditions with the aim of reducing alcohol related harm. More information can be found on the current consultations page of our website.

Anyone may make a submission on the Draft Local Alcohol Policy. Written submissions are now being accepted and will be received until 4.30pm on Friday 31 January 2014. Submissions can be made by clicking here.  Alternatively, submissions marked “LAP” can be posted to Buller District Council, PO Box 21, Westport 7866, faxed to (03) 788 8041 or emailed to lap@bdc.govt.nz.

Oral submissions will be heard at a hearing of the full Council as soon as practically possible after the written submission period has closed. If you wish to present your submission at the hearing, please make this clear in your written submission.

Once submissions are heard Council will deliberate and may notify a Provisional Local Alcohol Policy. Only those persons who submitted on the Draft Local Alcohol Policy can later appeal the Provisional Policy. Any appeals will be determined by the Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority.
